The Importance of Being English

What a motley and disturbing period of history England is experiencing.

My good friend James, over at Nourishing Obscurity has a fine eye for seeing the changes going on ( oh how passive, what I mean is being rammed down everyone's throats )  around.

Being a very Old Knight I have seen much too, but I will let him say a few words outside on the patio so as not to start a fight.

But have a go at him on his home turf, do.

"The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don’t just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.”  (James Nicoll, Linguist, February 2002)

James says:
Frankly, the English are disturbing.  It’s almost a default position of anyone not English that there’s something implicitly hostile in them, like some hidden away indigenous race which modern times do not feel fits the narrative for the C21st.  Within this country, the left are swift to brand anyone using  the word English as Little Englanders, whether they are or not.

But now we are getting these pseudo-let’s-be-part-of-Europe- and-modernize-or-die types proliferating, occupying key roles in society, influencing others, controlling the Beeb and other organs and this also spills over into the Church.  Paxman:

"In removing the Book of Common Prayer, the clergy [were] merely trying to make the Church ‘relevant’.  But in so doing, they were chipping away at a body of language which had been used by the English for centuries.  While there is nothing inherently wrong in trying to make religion more readily available, the ‘experimental’ alternatives adopted by the Church of England have no durability – they’re relevant only to a particular time."

Our Bouncer is a gentleman of muscle and guile. His patience has limits. He will check you at the door.

The Tavern gets rowdy visitors from time to time. Some are brain dead and some soul dead. They attack customers and the bar staff and piss on the carpets. Those people will not be allowed in anymore. So... Be Nice..
